On reaching the position a local fishing boat "Golden Promise" had located the yacht and was standing by, with both lifeboats on scene the "Golden Promise" resumed his fishing activities.

The Flamborough lifeboat had managed to put a man onboard the yacht but due to the falling tide could not get back to the yacht which was now well ashore on the rocks, it was decided to launch the liferaft from the Filey lifeboat with a crewman onboard fastened to the lifeboat with a rope,  the liferaft was paddled ashore and recovered the 3 occupants of the yacht and the Flamborough crewman.  With the yacht now high and dry on the rocks, it was decided to wait on scene for the tide to rise again to refloat the yacht.

As the tide flowed, 1 crewman from Filey and 1 from Flamborough paddled the liferaft back ashore along with a salvage pump and tow line, they boarded the yacht made the towline fast and as the tide rose the yacht was pulled clear, with the salvage pump running as the yacht was taking in water. Awards to crew

As then new D-Class naming ceremony was finishing, a report came through of a yacht in difficulty 1mile North of Filey. The fisheries protection vessel H.M.S"Shetland" had located the yacht and was standing by, Seaking helicopter 128 who was exercising in the area was also on scene.  The lifeboat launched and proceeded to the position, where an  11m yacht "Araxian" was located with 1 person onboard, he had been motor sailing due to the weather conditions and his  engine had failed.  When asked if he needed assistance and a crewman to help him he replied yes.   Adrift and rolling heavily in the 5-6 metre swell and a force 8 N.N.W wind, the coxswain Malcolm Johnson manouvered the lifeboat close enough for  crewman Neil Cammish to jump across to the yacht to assist the lone yachtsman onboard who had been at sea for some 13 hours.

The towline was passed, made fast  and the 7 mile tow begun for Scarborough, when a large wave broke across the bow of the yacht washing Neil off the deck of the yacht  into the sea, the lifeboat crew saw what happened and began to retrieve  the towline,  when Neil was spotted in the water alongside the yacht hanging onto the heaving line he had made fast to a stanchion in the bow of the yacht before being washed overboard , the yachtsman lowered a stern ladder and  Neil managed to make his way to the stern of the yacht and climb back onboard. After checking all was well the tow resumed without further incident to Scarborough were the yacht was moored alongside in the harbour. The lifeboat returned to Filey.

P.s  This service was carried out in probably the worst conditions the present lifeboat has been called out in, A marvelous piece of boat handling by the coxswain and a good leap by Neil certainly saved this situation from developing into something much worse
